Alternate tunings for the guitar
Learning the guitar can be great fun. Once you know a few chords and can play a few tunes you feel a great sense of satisfaction. You may also wish to experiment with alternate tunings for the guitar - i.e. not the usual EADGBE standard tuning. For those of you who wish to try some of these out, here are some to start you off.

Sarah McLachlan Surfacing Rock Music CD Review
One word describes the CD Surfacing from Sarah McLachlan... AWESOME! I wish it weren't the case but, it's not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can't force myself to get through.

Want to play guitar like the pros? Part 1 - Chords
Many consider playing the guitar seems easy, and for others playing the guitar seems hard. A popular part of playing the guitar is chords. Whether it's strumming them, plucking them or anything else you have to have a basic understanding of chords. All chords aren't the same. Power chords are a good way to begin learning chords, and advancing to normal chords is usually the best way to master them.

Choosing a Music Teacher
Although it is quite possible to teach yourself how to play an instrument, the advances that you can make with a good music teacher and following a course of structured lessons can not be overvalued. Don't be afraid to make that call to a teacher and discuss your needs. As adults it can be hard to take that first step, but playing music is undeniably good for the soul, and you shouldn't allow yourself to miss out on the opportunity to feel happier and learn something new.

Why You Need to Play a Hollow Body Semi-Acoustic Guitar
Ok so you play guitar or are looking to learn....but which guitar do you buy? It's a question that guitarists the world over ponder time and time again. Sure there's the ever greens such as the Fender Stratocaster or the Gibson Les Paul and their inexpensive copies. But that's a well trodden path - what you want is a little character a little something that makes you stand out - what you want is a hollow body semi acoustic.

Where do you want your music to fall into? The "Biz" or the "Eve...
To quote a question from my favorite movie Almost Famous, "What do you love about music?", the answer,"Well, to begin with.... everything!" The "Music Industry" is mainly made up of artists- people who love to sing, play and perform or sometimes just listen to the music that they live for. They'll play for little or no money just because they love the "everything" about music.

What is your piano playing style? Most likely when you first started to learn to play the piano you were stuck in the middle C position. While a nice position and most comfortable it does not lend itself to making the big full sounds we all long for. So now that you've been at it a few years or even months what has become the most likely way for you to play the piano?

Do you play piano by chords? Maybe both of your hands play simple triads and you have to transpose all of your music to the keys of C or F. Or maybe all you need is the hint of a chord symbol and you're off and running with the more complex extended chords.

How about sheet music. Do you need it in order to play at the piano. Do you play the full grand staff as it is written, rarely veering from a single note? If not do you then take a few liberties and add some interesting notes and chords to give the piece your signature style?

What if you play by ear or using chords. What do you do with your left hand? Are you into octaves with an occasional note within (or out of) the scale mixed in? Or do you embellish with a left hand one fingered pattern running expertly around whichever scale may it be such as the pentatonic.

Maybe you're more comfortable sticking with chords in the left hand and doing all the work in your right hand. Adding a chord on below the melody or doing fancy arpeggios with the all too easier to play right hand.

Whichever may be your piano playing style maybe this impromptu list will give you new ideas and inspiration for other ways of expanding your craft and increasing your technical skill.
