Lucinda Williams Car Wheels On A Gravel Road Rock Music CD Review
Car Wheels On A Gravel Road is the latest release from Rock Artist Lucinda Williams, and I can only think of one word to describe this CD... AWESOME! It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce that's exactly what I must say about this one.

When it comes to piano playing, many don't progress as fast as they should because they get stuck in this mindset: the need to be perfect.

Beginning piano students tend to get in the trap of comparing themselves to others who play much better than they do. They start to internalize and have this mentality that they have to get better before they can play in front of people. Even when they're practicing, they have to wait for the perfect moment to do so. They think about the perfect fingering, technique, expression, perfect attack on the keys, hand position, etc. As a result they stagnate. There is no perfection when it comes to piano playing.

It couldn't be further from the truth. The piano players that you admire got to where they are because they don't have the need to be perfect. They know that trying to be perfect is an excuse from practice. Furthermore, they know that being perfect hinders their flow and creativity.

Try this, even if you are a complete beginner. Sit down at your piano, close your eyes and place your two hands anywhere on the keys and I mean anywhere. Start making sounds, any sounds without letting your critical mind interfere. No need to judge if one note is wrong or another is right. There is no right or wrong. Just play for the heck of it. You can vary your attack, play soft then loud, fast and slow, but never judge if it's right or wrong. This exercise might sound nonsensical, but what you're doing is training your mind to be free from the need to be perfect.

Do it often until you're convinced that you don't need to be perfect to start. You'll feel a new sense of freedom, openness and creativity that you could never get from waiting to be perfect. It's a different mindset and it works!
